Monson, Maine - We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Allen T. Dean of Monson, ME, formerly of Southbury, CT, on July 2, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on January 13, 1947, in Norwalk, CT, he was the son of Allen H. Dean and Joan M. Dean.

After graduating from Sacred Heart University, he built a respected career at Perkin-Elmer in the Optical Systems Division, working on the Hubble Space Telescope. He later founded his own successful painting contracting company. Beyond his professional life, he was a man of many talents. An avid outdoorsman, he spent many hours birdwatching, gardening, and exploring his property in Maine. He had a deep love for the animals and wildlife surrounding his home. Allen also loved muscle cars, target shooting, football, and photography. He enjoyed working with his hands and building things from scratch, including his residence, Greyledge Lodge. He cherished time with his dearest friends, including Gary and Susan Killam and the Lemelin family, as well as his neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen H. Dean and Joan M. Dean; his sister, Donna M. Kaechele; and his half brother, Fred Allen Ostertag. He is survived by his former wife, Joanne R. Dean; his twin daughters, Kimberly A. Dean and Kirsten E. Dean; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly and remember him for his strength, wisdom, talent, and humor.

Private funeral services will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bangor Humane Society or the Monson Fire Department, both of which reflect his love for animals and his generosity.
