Guilford, Maine - Barbara Reardon, 100, Guilford's oldest resident, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 2:22 a.m. Everyone who knew and loved her might wonder if she chose that moment to give us one last good story to tell.
Barbara Evangeline Ladd was born on May 2, 1925, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Guy and Mary (Noyes) Ladd. Barbara and her two younger sisters grew up in Guilford Center on a large dairy farm. On September 6, 1941, Barbara married her childhood friend, Dana Reardon. In 1965 Barbara and Dana started building a camp on Manhannock Pond in Sangerville. Throughout the years the family made a compound of camps. Barbara's children and grandchildren spent a lifetime of happy summers there. They treasure their memories of growing up around her cookie jar and hearing her tell stories. Barbara worked at Hardwood Products for more than 40 years, retiring in 1994 to relax at camp. She also spent many years devoted to the American Legion and the Guilford Memorial Library. For decades she served on the library board, helping to raise money to build the beautiful new wing. When asked at her 100th birthday celebration what she would like to be remembered for, Barbara said with no hesitation, "Being a mother and grandmother and loving my family!" She got her wish. Barbara was dearly cherished and will be sorely missed by four generations who loved her cooking and tried their best to beat her at cards.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Dana C. Reardon, on July 23, 1990; sisters, Caroline L. Campbell and Marjorie L. Frautten; sons-in-law, Franklin "Buddy" Rowe and Fritz Toby; and grandson, Roger Rowe. Her survivors include her children, Carole Rowe, Lorraine Toby, Parker Reardon (Debby), and Mary Covel (Steve); grandchildren, Lisa Rowe Fraustino (Dan Deloria), Angela Rowe, Fred Toby, James Reardon (Kellie), Parker Reardon II (Cindy), Merrianne Minnich (Dan), Stephanie Covel, and Kyle Covel (Teresa); and twenty-seven great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Lary Funeral Home, 62 Summer St., Dover-Foxcroft, on Friday, January 30, from 10-11 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m. Barbara would be happy to know that any donations made in her memory went to her beloved Guilford Memorial Library. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Memories and messages of condolence may be expressed at laryfuneralhome.com.
