Lancaster, OH, Ohio - Ed the "Mountain Man" Chesnet passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 6, 2025. He fought a good fight. He was a simple man, born in Coatesville, PA, to Harry Chesnet and Sara (Bones) Chesnet, a farming family where he learned his love for animals, farming and nature.
He brought his young family to Guilford, Maine, in 1971, where he settled in as a farmer, horse trainer and jack-of-all-trades. That life was hard and he moved his young family of now four into town, where he worked at Guilford of Maine until his retirement. Eventually as his health started declining he moved to Laurelville, Ohio, where he could get better care and be surrounded by loved ones. Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman (the kind of the whale that got away). He loved the outdoors, being active - running was a favorite past time, and his loved of the pipe and Captain Black. He always was quick with a smile, always had a joke or ready to laugh and that continued into his last days. When asked you doing okay he would reply, "Oh yeah." He was quick to help anyone in need; even at times at his expense, even if the favor was never repaid.
He will be remembered fondly and lovingly by the family he leaves behind: his daughters, Tammy (Scott) Showman of Granville, Ohio, and Lori Chesnet of South Bloomingville, Ohio; his six grandchildren, Angie, Justine, Melissa, Harley, Alexus and Dakota; and his entertaining and rambunctious great-grandchildren, Jesslee, Zaylee and Sawyer. He is also survived by one sister and three brothers.
There will be a private sister only service in the summer. In lieu of flowers, a simple condolence note of a story you remember or something funny he said to you would be a great way for us to remember him by.
