Margaret E. Campbell Obituary
Abbot, Maine - Margaret E. "Peggy" Campbell passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2026, while shopping for bargains - a favorite pastime of hers. She was 81 years young. Peggy was born January 9, 1945, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Dorothy (Tozier) and Frederick Schulz.
Her family moved to Parkman, Maine, during Peggy's school years. She married Galen Campbell in 1963. They lived across the covered bridge in Sangerville until moving to her forever home in Abbot in 1972. She worked at Guilford Industries for 30-plus years, where she met her life partner, Bob Smith. Peggy and Bob spent many happy hours riding Harleys, panning for gold, and enjoying camp. Peggy did not let her age dictate her lifestyle. She was still flying alone to Las Vegas to try her luck at the slots before heading out into the desert of California to visit dear friends. She would help anyone get any vehicle unstuck, whether it be snow or mud. Driving their tractor down the road for 10 miles was "no big deal" if she needed it somewhere else. Peggy always carried a shovel in her trunk so awesome flowers could find their way to a new home. Peggy was a friend, mom, or gram to anyone who crossed her path. There was always a place to lay your head and a chair at her table for a meal or advice. Peggy was loved by many, and her love of life will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her brother, Stephen Schulz; daughter, Penny (Richard) Pike; son, Randy (Megan) Campbell; son, Tony (Michelle) Campbell; stepdaughter, Carrie (Michael) Cartwright; grandchildren, Chris, Nathan, Leigh, Kyra, Chy-Leigh, and Jacob; life partner, Bob Smith, who loved her very much; dear friends, Mary Cupero and Belinda Roberts, as well as extended family and friends.
A celebration of Peggy's lifetime of adventures will be held during the summer. Please stay tuned for further details. In lieu of flowers, please take a moment, enjoy nature in all its beauty, and whenever you see a cactus, think of Peggy and smile.
