Marilee Preble Hurlburt Obituary

Petaluma, California - Marilee Preble Hurlburt passed away June 27, 2026, in Sonoma County, CA. She was 80 and proud as ever of her Maine heritage. Marilee was born in Dover-Foxcroft on August 24, 1945, to Harold and Dorothy Preble.

She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1963, and attended Husson College. She married A-2c Nathan Hurlburt in June 1964, and welcomed baby Ricky in 1966. In 1967 they drove to Alaska for 22 years of big adventures. Marilee began her 25-year career in the LP gas industry in 1972. She rose at Petrolane to the level of assistant manager of accounting and credit supervision for the Pacific Northwest region. Her work involved traveling, supervising and training district offices. Marilee felt well prepared by her education at Foxcroft Academy and Husson College. She transferred her job to Westfield, MA, when she and Nate moved back East in 1989 to be closer to their fathers. Soon they built a home on Sebec Lake where they lived year round. In 2003 they relocated to Kingman, AZ. They built another home and enjoyed the high desert together until Nate passed away in 2017. Marilee moved to Petaluma, CA in January 2021.

She is survived by her son, Richard Hurlburt and his wife, Lehua Asher, of San Francisco; her brother, Gary Preble of Wheaton, MD; and her nephews, Chris Preble and Todd Preble.

A celebration of Marilee Preble Hurlburt's life will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, 1-3 p.m. at the Sebec Reading Room, 665 Moulton Hill Rd., Sebec, ME.
