Round Rock - Round Rock, TX - Robert M. Bishop, 83, passed away September 12, 2018, at St. David's Hospital in Round Rock, TX, from Multiple Organ Failure. He was born December 18, 1934, in Guilford, the son of the late Manual and Hattie (Fogg) Bishop.
After graduating from Piscataquis Community High School in 1953, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and went on to graduate from the University of Maine with degrees in Mathematics and Business. He started his career teaching math at several high schools in New York State; then changing fields and careers, he worked for several insurance companies in New York City. During this time Bob lived in various cities in Canada, as well as Houston and Chicago. His final position before his retirement was with AON (a British global insurance company) where he was the President and Chief Operating Officer of their international Subsidiaries. After his retirement, he and his family moved from Chicago to Austin, TX, where he started his own consulting firm handling the various insurance needs for international clients.
In 1956, Bob joined the United States Marine Corp. During his service, he was stationed in North and South Carolina. Bob was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1958. Throughout his high school years he served with the Maine Army National Guard. He was very proud to have served with the United States Marines.
Bob was a Life Member of the Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge #109 A.F. & A.M. in Guilford.
He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Rose; his four children, R. Christopher Bishop and wife, Nicole, of Ghent, NY, Stuart C. Bishop of White Plains, NY, Allison H. Bishop of Round Rock, TX, and Megan H. Bishop of Ft. Collins, CO; and two grandchildren, Emmett and Arlo Bishop of Ghent, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Tripodi and husband, John, of New York City.
A memorial service with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Bishop family lot in Abbot Village Cemetery, with Pastor Phil McGlauflin officiating. Friends and family are invited to share fellowship and memories after the service at the newly re-opened Guilford Bed and Breakfast, 24 Elm St, Guilford, ME.
